I'm not sure if this belongs in the n00bs forum, but I'll start my tale and see where it gets me. I'm trying to install Mandrake One from the live DVD, so far with no success. It boots fine, I select live install, auto allocate partitions and the installation begins. When the progress bar reached near completion, the live install just disappears. If I reboot, I get a grub error. I've installed the live cd version with no problems, but would like to have the extra packages the DVD offers. I've tried this on both my laptop and on my linux box at home, wit hthe same result on both. I had suspected that it was the partition allocation that was causing the problem, and I manually allocated the partitions, but it failed before it even got as far as the copy.

Any suggestions welcome, I've trawled the threads on LQ and havn't come up with anyone that has reported the same issue, does this sound familiar to anyone?

If you just want to install the extra packages then you can do so because everything is on the public Mandriva mirrors. Just setup your sources and use the software installer utility.

Search the thread. You need 12.5 Gig of space, huge, but thats it as far as I know from DVD

Thanks for that, I was away for the weekend, but got it sorted late on Friday night,
and am only just reading your posts now. It was a partition issue, I manually set the partitions (13 GB for the boot), and this time it worked. Thanks again.
