ipw2200 bug??? can't go wireless

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to get wireless going on my laptop with no luck. Has anyone else been able to get their Intel® PRO 2915 working with a wep enabled d-link 624?

I installed the firmware, set up the WEP key, SSID etc etc. But, still no internet. iwconfig gives the detail on my wireless card now whereas before it didn't, so that is good.
Can't ping anything except localhost, just gives me a host unreachable.
Says eth2 is up when I connect through point and click.

I can connect just fine wirelessly from my windows machine so i know for sure it isn't an issue with my wireless router.

Here is some diagnostic stuff -

[abir]# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 no wireless extensions.

eth2 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"ThankYou" Nickname:"localhost"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: 00:13:46:B7:F2:18
Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Encryption key:<snipped> Security modepen
Power Managementff
Link Quality=94/100 Signal level=-18 dBm Noise level=-86dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:4 Missed beacon:1

sit0 no wireless extensions.
----
[abir]# ifup eth2
Determining IP information for eth2... done.
---
What is the basic procedure to connect through command line to wireless networks? i must be missing something basic. ifup and ifdown seems to work without error.
I used verbose mode during boot up to make sure eth2 was being brought up okay, no problems there. what am i missing???
i just don't get it. please help.

Ok. Problem solved. I am wireless now. How, you ask.

Logged into my d-link wireless router from my windows machine from where i had originally set it up.

i went to Device Info -> Status and looked up the WAN IP address which is a DHCP Client Connected Connection.

Then I entered this as my gateway IP address for my DHClient. Voila! I am wireless!

This was for all my fellow uber n00bs out there.
