Mandriva 2011: Fresh Install/Update will not boot

I installed Mandriva 2011 and did a complete update. After reboot I get this.

Code:
mount: /dev is not a block device
umount; /sysroot: not mounted
device node has wrong file type

dracut:/#
I did a reinstall and same thing happened. I can still boot into safe mode though.

The system is setup to have
/boot
Encrypted LVM(root,swap,home)

I get prompted to unlock the drive before it it stops at the above screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the system boots in safe mode, then you may use a command-line switch to try and boot to the gui login screen.

Interrupt options

Interrupts are a complex aspect of kernel behavior. The boot-time options deal mostly with the interface between the kernel and the hardware that handles interrupts, such as the Intel chip's Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC).
Name

apic — Change the verbosity of the APIC subsystem when booting.
Synopsis

apic=[quiet(default)|verbose|debug]

Control how much information the APIC subsystem generates when booting the kernel.
Name

noapic — Do not use any IOAPICs.

Prevent the kernel from using any of the IOAPICs that might be present in the system.
Name

lapic — Enable the local APIC.

Cause the kernel to enable the local APIC even if the BIOS had disabled it.
Name

nolapic — Do not use the local APIC.

Tell the kernel not to use the local APIC.

If the PCI_MSI kernel config parameter is enabled, this kernel boot option can be used to disable the use of MSI interrupts system-wide.
Try one or two in combination, you may also use F3(?) key with Grub, to select most used command line switches.

Hope this helps you, Regards Glenn

Thanks for your reply,

When I got the time I started looking at the settings. The system update removed the root target from grub and replaced it with just "/dev". I corrected this and it still didn't boot so I stripped off some of the graphical options and it booted fine with the exception of a missing encryption module. I also found it odd that on the first safe-mode boot vbox-additions was installed.

I ran into a few other issues that should have been sorted out a long time ago and ended up just switching back to Fedora. Mandriva is a great OS but 2011 seems to be broken as far as LVM goes.

I will try it again in the future though.

sorry to see that, I believe that the system could have been sorted, even though I don't use the same distro.

Mageia-2 beta 3 has been released for preview, debug (and suggests).

check your local repo here,

Cheers, and hope it goes better next time.
