Here is a bit of Mandriva history:
When Mandrake merged with Connectiva (becoming Mandriva) in the Spring of 2005, they changed from an annual cycle consisting of three releases per year to one consisting of two releases per year. Since then, they issue an initial release in the fall (the dot-zero release, named for the coming year) and a second release in the spring (the dot-one release). Unless you want to wait for the 2010.0 release which will be availble this fall, ypu should feel free to install Mandriva Linux 2009.1 (Spring) at any point now.
