Unhappy Mandriva 2007 freezes when setting the system clock on boot!

UPDATE: Problem semi-solved. I reinstalled 2006, then upgraded with 2007. The problem persisted, but I was given another option in the GRUB screen saying "2.6.12-12". This one doesnt freeze. It uses /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-12mdk.

The clock is not the problem, I confirmed using rescue mode and testing hwclock. Besides, the boot screen says [OK] in the setting system clock step, but freezes right before the next step.

Anyone has an idea what may be causing this?

----------------------------------------------------------

I made a fresh install of Mandriva 2007 and worked fine, but then I reinstalled later using the same steps and now the boot process stops when setting the system clock.

This happened also when I tried installing RC1.

I can run Mandriva 2006 and Windows XP without problem.

UPDATE: booted from cd in rescue mode. /dev/rtc is not found and hwclock reports that it cant access the clock under any mode (error 2). In Mandriva 2006 there arent any such problems.

Help??

have you set it to synch to utc?

if you have no network at boot it freezes at the /etc/init file command searching for the time server.

to test....run mcc and set clock to local time..if unfreezes then thats your problem

my stupid 2007 box does that if I press <esc><esc> before the splash
screen tell you can do so, then it freezes on the clock, otherwise it does not.
Maybe unrelated to yours

Also can be symptoms of PCI or AGP card not well in place in slots

looks indeed like it is a configuration issue rather than my
not so relevant experience above
