Mandriva 2006 usb mouse lost

Hello

This is my first post on this list.

A little background:
My hardware, that i'm running linux on is HP Pavilion ze4423ea, Athlon XP-M, 30GB, 256MB, ATI radeon mobility U1 (IGP 320M)
I'll give more details, if needed.

My problem is with the usb mouse. After i upgraded from Mandriva 2005LE to 2006 with the network installation CD,my laptops touchpad is working ok, but my usb mouse (Logitech) is not recognized. I have to go all the way to hardware configuration and add a usb mouse 3-button Generic, and then my mouse works perfectly. It's just that i have to go through that every time i boot.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

This has always been a problem with the latest releases on Mandrake.

You would be best to have a new installation with the usb mouse in when you install.

I had no problem with 10.1 and 10.2 with usb mice on a laptop, but then I always do a fresh install as the upgrades rarely get the hardware right and it's
more trouble than it's worth, saving your files on a dvd, reinstalling and dragging the old stuff back.

Thanks barrythai,

I just did a fresh install of Mandriva 2006, now the mouse works ok (both of them).
This also fixed a problem with ACPI shutdown, wich used to hang everytime.

So now it seems that the last thing with my laptop to figure out is to get ATI radeon tvout working.
Later on that one.

Cheers

/param
