We're using the GUI installer...I'm guessing that not using the perl install would require the text install vs. the GUI?
Honestly, this is my first time installing Linux...my co-worker is more experience than I, but he was stumped as to how to proceed as well.
In all honesty, this issue will probably resolve itself anyway as there are plans to rotate out some of our older HP servers and replace them with newer ones, so this may end up being a moot point. In the meantime, we have other temporary machines that we can perform the install on.
Thanks much for the reply though, and for future reference, if you know of any good write-ups on performing custom compile installs, please point me to them.
When you install (GUI or text), you get a choice of packages you want installing (from memory I think you select 'custom'). Try not selecting Perl. Once you have got it working, you can try adding things.
One possibility is a faulty CD. I would try another download.
You could also try the live CD (Mandrivamove - see the Mandriva web site) to see if it will run on your hardware.
