Thanks I'll use the Konqueror browser once I install KDE, I used 2 different mirrors for m 2 downloads, I think it was because my computer froze at least once during both of the downloads :? . I thought it would have no affect because when ever I look at the log file it just resumes back from the point it stoped downloading I'll try that program you recommended but are there any programs that can resume correctly after a computer froze while downloading?
Oh and I use a different way of checking md5sum I put all the files and the asc file in the same directory and I run the coomad in msdos window: C:\(path)\md5sum.exe -c (name of asc file)
One last thing what happens if I burn this ISO will the installer check if the CD is correct? Or if theinstalle can't extract a file during the process will it say cancel and, I'm left with a half done install?
Whenever i download files from there i usually don't have any problems. To the best of my knowledge, the Mandrake installation does not scan the CDs for errors, so you definitely need to make sure that the .iso file is good before you burn it.
Haha 4x is my top speed LOL, I usually burn at 2x to make sure its right. Wow Linuxiso.org is a good site I'm sure to bookmark it now. And I'm using "Internet download manager" top rated on download.com when I downloaded it. One problem when the download starts the first time it says Resume support: Unknown then after i press cancel not pause (pause seems to be a temporary pause as it doesn't close the window) It seems normally stoped, the second time, when I restart the download it has pause capability. To delete a download I press delete not cancel so I'm wondering if by pressing cancel if it will damage the file.
OMG! a perfect download I only paused once. But still bad checksum . I downloaded this time from... ftp://ftp.cs.ucr.edu/pub/mirrors/mandrake/Mandrake/iso/ This one seems done right even if the checksum didnt match, I'm going to burn this one and try...
*edit: Ok this is ridiculus I tested again, I used the, write checksum to txt file one to check I checked 2 times both had different answers.
Any other programs to test legitamacy of the iso file?
Memory chip? you mean RAM? Well at least now I know the iso wasn't right it kept freezing randomly during install and errors came up while writing to disk. By the way, there's an option in packages for utilities for configuration I want that to ease configuration, but I'm not completely sure if it's on CD1 any one know?
I tried with both my cd rom drives didn't work, but I'm not sure on the RAM part I got it upgraded a few months ago to 512mb, besides the error I got was could not find pakage locales 232. I downloaded again still sum didn't match this time I didn't pause once used linuxiso.com and used getright .
It's really a hassle going through all the cords to get to the chips I don't see how this makes a difference, forgive me for being hard headed but it runs fine in windows. Which settings should I use for burning? Track at once, session at once, or disc at once, and should I close the CD?
