ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.5 /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
Restarted Firefox and BAM! Working great! Took me a few hours to find the answer, but that was the only twitch I had found in my clean install of 10.0 Com. Hopefully this will help a few others out there.
Amazing how that works.

I now have 10.0 up and running. Seems to be an issue or two with mysql after trying to start it after installing it via the package on the cd, but I assume it's that it hasn't been set up yet. Apache is rolling and I have to say KDE 3.2 is just sweet.

Looks like my install problems had to do with the problem related to bit torrent because the images from the ftp's worked great.

I ALREADY HAD MY PARTITIONS DESTROY BY MDK 10:

The same exact thing happened to me, after installing mdk 10 i could not boot into windooze xp any i also got 'MANDRAKE'S BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH" , get it!

i tried every fricking trick i know to restore my mbr no luck, good for me i always backup my files and downloads, the solution was to low level format my hd (zero's again). the only i hate its that i have to reinstall windows and drivers! and to re-register wins xp with customer service WHICH I HATE DOING!

SOLUTION GUYS...install mandrake on separate hd or else you will get "MANDRAKE'S BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH! never happen before with RH or CollegeLinux ONLY MANDRAKE FRIENDLY USER, CD-ROM DESTROYER, AND NOW eXPert WINDOWS REMOVER!

i also get the same at shut down: hangs on echi_hcd USB bus 3 de-registered
and i have no idea what that means

AND ABOUT THE PARTIONS read this about the bug,

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7302#c6

s0 if anyone has a solution to the echi_hcd USB bus 3,4 or other # de-registered PLS share!

Installing '10' on my Dell CPi 266 went ok, except for 1 missing package (about themes for Gnome or KDE or so) probably I mis-burnt the CD) and a missing cd (#4). Last Cd didn't seem necessary to me, everything installed okay.

Problems encountered (and some of them solved)
Sound Still problems with the Crystal CS 4237b chip. In Mandrake 9.2 i had sound in Gnome when setting up the card with sndconfig as if it was a SB Pro. Doesn't seem to work here. Someway when using Sndconfig ALL sound-configuration files disappeared.
Trackpad 'tapping' unsupported #$%!! (Tested all supported mouse-devices
Mandrake controlcentre Some minor bugs and system-freezes.
System Freeze on Shutdown On shutdown the system freezes when hotplug tries to stop USBI-HCD (or something similar). Killing Hotplug (and disabling hotplug in the Services-menu) solves the freezing. I found out that [space] - [space] - [space] - [return] gave me the commandline back, where I could use Top/Kill to stop Hotplug.
Usb-Flash not recognized .... But I think it's the inferior brand of the stick, rather than Mandrake: It froze the system on Mdk 9.2). USB- Smart-Media Card (reader) did work.
Hostname : Can't set up another hostname as 'localhost'. Changing the hostname in /etc/hosts changes the name until I start up Mandrake control centre. After that, the hostname is back to 'localhost' again. I couldn't find a place to change the hostname in Control Center

Solved / Improved by Mdk10 (compared tot Mkd9.2)
SWEEX Lan-adapter Sweex (realtek) LAN-adapter (CardBus) wasn't recognized and properly started during boot under Mdk9.2 (due to the boot-sequence: Eth0 -> Pcmcia). I had to run Control-Centre every time I rebooted MDK9.2, when I wanted to use my lancard. In Mdk10 that sequence is changed to PCMCIA - Eth0 (what makes it recognise the card at boot.)
Speed-bump Overall I experience more speed & flexibility (due to Kernel 2.6???)
ACPI Acpi-support. running Fine. The Battery-appelet (Klaptop) of KDE shows the batterystatus. Minor problem: It finds it difficult to prognose the battery-status (going up/down from 99% (7.40 Hrs) to 4% (16.00 Hrs) back to 99 % in about 2 minutes) when using batteries. Suspension works like a charm. I'm only missing the APM-ability of turning-off the HD when idle...
KDE is working FAST! Under 9.2 (KDE 3.1 (?)) i didn't try it for more than 5 minutes, now it's even faster than Gnome 2.4 (especially Kopete vs Nautilus)

So that's my experience so far. If anyone knows how to get sound back on... Or Hotplug...Please??

mandrake 10.0 compared to 9.2

I tried both 9.2 with cooker kde3.2 latest rpmīs (13/3/03)
and mandrake 10.0 community.

9.2 is more faster then 10.0!
9.2 drakx is better!
9.2 fonts show decent!
9.2 BOOTSPLASH AND BACKGROUND BETTER!
9.2 and cooker kde3.2 (where is 3.2.1)

LETS GO ON . . . . . . . . . .

I don't mean to sound like a smart a** but 10.0 isn't finished yet. I have been running it on some test boxes since beta 1 and it is steadily getting better. Its kind of funny that some folks are actually saying they like 9.2 better. Remember all the problems 9.2 had out of the gate?? This thread is really great though. It seems that everyone is willing to solve the problems instead of just complaining about it. I'll hang on to my 9.2 on my laptop for a while yet. Its running real smooth and my guess is that when 10.0 official comes out it will be just as smooth as 9.2 is now(probably even better). At the house I run a mix of 9.2 and 10. 10 is really nice!! it runns blazing in smp. I'll just wait on the laptop though.

So far, the only issue I've had installing 10.0 (Power Pack downloads Cds 1-5) on my Dell Inspiron 8200 (laptop) is that the NVidia drivers didn't work right for some reason. This was the nvidia and not the nv driver.

All I had to do was put "nv" in for the driver in my config file. Then I downloaded the install file from nvidia's site and ran it. Works really well now. (I did select paranoid for my security just to see what the difference is and I had to go through about a dozen warnings during the install. The files weren't saved with the correct permissions and I had to manually change them all)

Oh, I do get one error while it is booting... it tries to unmount /initrd and fails. I'm still very new to Linux and have no idea what that is about. I didn't have that problem when I tried 10.0 on my other partition. (I had a much lighter security setting during that install though)

10 has been pretty good for me straight after install. the last batch of updates has brought problems on the networking side and my scanner still doesn't work most of the time.

At the moment, I've seen a lot of problems being reported in Cooker. I'm waiting for the "fixed" message wave now. Actually I am not waiting anymore. I'll try something else. I've started with redhat and mandrake back in 99 and have never ventured much. Now is the time ;-)

Hello Iainr,

Try disabling hotplugger at boot (either interactively "i")
or through "services" in system config applet.

Not an ideal solution, but works for me.

Dude, just pop in your XP cd and boot to the recovery console. log in to your xp installation with your admin password and type the following at the windows command prompt:
FIXBOOT (hit enter)
FIXMBR (hit enter)
then type exit, or reboot ( I forget which)
This restores your original windows bootloader.

It doesn't solve your mandrake problem, but you get windows back.

Man10 runs like a champ on my older PII 350 Micron Machine. The performance is easily twice that of Man91. Love it.
