Unhappy Mandrake 10.1 / Win XP BIOS USB Legacy support

I run Windows XP and Mandrake 10.1 on my machine.

I make use of an USB wireless keyboard and mouse. I have to disable USB Legacy Support in the BIOS to be able to run Mandrake. When I want to run XP, I need to enable it again. Mandrake will not boot with the USB support enabled. This drives me crazy !

Does anyone know a fix, please ??

Have you tried booting Mandrake with the "noapic" option? There is a problem with 10.1 and the IRQ interface used by some USB controllers.

There is a kernel patch floating around which adds the option to turn off legacy usb as a boot option. Here is a link about it [here]

I'm not sure how usable this patch would be for a Mandrake kernel.

I have inserted noapic, nolapic and enabled ACPI in different sequences - no luck. Need to disable legacy support still for Mandrake to boot successfully.

I had a look at the suggested fix, but have no clue how to apply it !
