Upgraded to 10.0 from a stable 9.2. Install went well but when I rebooted the system xserver failed to load. Can't start KDE, Gnome or any desktop. Any ideas on how to repair or get X to run?
Thks wmartino. I've tried that already but no luck. Still playing around with xf86 but if nothing then guess will have to reinstall. Any other ideas are most welcomed!
My machine was running 9.2 without any problems. In retrospect I guess I made the mistake of upgrading to 10.0 instead of doing a fresh install. As I said the install went smoothly no problems except now i can't get a gui to run.
As root I ran xf86config entered the generic nvidia drivers since I cannot find spefic drivers for the tnt64 card and no luck.
Now my alternative I guess is to reinstall 10.0 this time using the install function. Now I'm not sure if I do that will I destroy all the data that I had on the machine? I guess if I don't mess around with the partitions then 10.0 should install freshly ontop of itself?
Well, I rebooted with the iso cd's and upgraded 10.0 ontop of itself. Since there was nothing to upgrade once i was taken to the configure page for the services and equipment, I changed the video card to generic 'nv'. Finished the install, rebooted and XF86 started! Brilliant! Gotta love linux and the community! if I were using windoze would be looking at reformating and installing again.
I am glad you got it working. Yes you gotta love the linux. I have only been using since September but since then I have to linux boxes running. One is an email and web server the other a desktop unit. Anyway enough rambling glad you got it working.
