Lost MySQL - I Am a Dummy

Hi Helpers!

I am using 2010.2 Mandriva, was trying to correct MySQL security password, started playing with some of my files, yes, I REMOVED some files by command line, rather than through the control center and now stuck. I updated MySQL from version sent with 2010.2 release to 5.1.58 version using the Mandriva Linux Control center, first removed all MySQL, then reloaded (hoping this would fix). Nope.

Is it best to load from RPM? If I update to the current 2011, will that fix or complicate? I have attached a text file of the files remaining on my system c/w a list of files +/- using the diff command.

Help, scared to do anything. I am a newbie who thinks I can move around in Linux but I AM A DUMMY.

thanks in advance
