I changed by graphical loader from the Gnome Loader to the Mandrake loader. Now, rather than entering my user name and then my password, I get a list of users and a bunch of programs. However, I cannot log into anything, root or my username. Furthermore, if I use the interactive boot to get a prompt, I can log in just fine. Can someone either tell me what file to edit (and how) to get rid of the graphical loader or why my password doesn't work?

I dont' know why your password doesn't work. However, to switch back to GDM (Gnome login)

edit (or create if it doesn't exist) the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop
and put in the line:
DISPLAYMANAGER=GNOME

restart x and you should be GTG.
