Hi, Im a to linux, i just installed mandrake 10.1 on an old comp that im goner use as a router. Anywayz i once i start the machine and it gives the list of linux, linux-nonfb, and failsafe, i goto linux and it comes up with a blue screen saying kernel panic: no init found. try passing init= option to kernel. I tryed reinstalling it, but for some odd reason the cd doesnt load before the hdd even though i changed in bios. Thnx
If you dont have Mandrave install guide/manual try http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/in...T&t=503&st=278 for step by step install guide with many useful Mandrake tips and howtos. You should be able to download install guide if it's not in Readme on install cd or dvd. Good luck.
ok, i got that problem solved . However. it goes the the localhost login screen. i type my name (theres no pass) and i typed startx. i get the error:
execve failed for /etc/x11/x (errno 2)
giving up.
Xinit: no such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to x server
xinit: no such process (errno 3): server error.
Its an old mobo, it has narrow scsi and ide slots. I ended up switching the HDD cable back into the ide slot. Then once i was in the login screen, i typed MCC. and configured the display. When it rebooted i typed StartX and it started right up. hope it helps
