Kernel headers Mdk 9.1

Hi,

I'm a newbie to linux and i hope you can help me on this issue.

Are kernel headers automatically installed when you do the initial linux installation?

I'm trying to get my internet connection up and running and my campus requires us to connect via vpn in order to access the internet.

I ran into problems when i was trying to install the vpn, and i was wondering if i was missing anything. I will post the instructions below, hope you can help me with this issue. Thanks a million!

--------

To install NUS-VPN Client, just follow the following instructions.

1) Ensure that you are running Redhat Linux 6.2 (Intel) or a compatible distribution using kernel 2.2.12 or later

2) Ensure that you have installed the kernel headers for the version of kernel that you are currently running. RPM for the kernel header should be kernel-headers-2.4.*-*

3) Ensure that all firewall and IP Filters are turned off.

E.g. /etc/rc.d/init.d/ipchains stop to turn off ipchains.

4) Download the NUS-VPN Linux Client for Linux here and copy it to a directory of your choice.

5) Unzip the file using the gunzip command.

E.g. gunzip nusvpnclient-linux-3.7.tar.gz

6) Unpack the distribution using the tar command

E.g. tar -xvf nusvpnclient-linux-3.7.tar

7) If you have logged in as root or super user, proceed to the next step. If not, obtain superuser privileges using the command su and type in the superuser password.

8) Enter the following commands

cd vpnclient

./vpn_install

Just use the Install Software menu option and find the kernel source package. If you've updated to a newer security release, check you install the right source for the kernel you're using.
