Which 'hackable' is the thread referring to?:-

Hackable as in - Very easy to Customise/Configure?

or

Hackable as in - Security?

Where is this thread, please post a link to it.

Hi, I wrote that, and I was refering to configuring My system.

I'm using the term hacking in the original sense of the word.

Not the malicious criminal term (Black hat hacking)

White hat hacking is making things work, as they may not have been designed to, but making them/it work none the less.

Now, your question,

Mandriva is secure from install, only you can change that.

I use my pc for everything, I use a custom (a Hack) iptables script that I can understand and works for me. It allows Squid proxy to be transparent and turns on port forwarding with /etc/sysctl.conf (ipv4)

As with any other computer on the web, the last secure step is where you go and what you allow.

Test your ports with GRC.com sheilds-up. There are others, dslreports...

Mandriva also has msec, which is capable of reporting any unauthorised changes to config files, etc.

Seems that now-a-days you need to be aware of your dsl pouter settings and security. This is what is being targetted now. Just read that on slash-dot (/.) news

cheers and all the best.

Linux is a clone of the Unix kernel, written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It has all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix kernel, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management, and TCP/IP networking.
