Angry IntelliPoint and HP Deskjet 960C

ok - i posted in the software forum when i first joined about mouse, monitor and printer problems. i came home and now my mouse is working - it is a microsoft wireless intellipoint blue mouse. i have set it to standard mouse, i've even edited the XF86Config and XF86Config-4 files for:
Section "Pointer"
Protocol "IMPS/2"
Device (it was already set for something else, one thread i found said to change it to "/dev/usbmouse" but i'm on a PS/2 connection... didnt want to have to unplug it and plug it in my usb port - i only have 2, and want these for something else)
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "Off"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Buttons" "3"
EndSection

however, the wheel does not work still. one other thread said to change the device to "/dev/input/mouse0" i'm not too much of a programmer, and i dont want to mess around and screw up...

also - my fiancee and i are connected to a router. i have a scanner (havent set it up yet) hooked up to this computer, and she has a printer, a HP Deskjet 960C to her computer, which runs XP. i've tried during the installation to test print, but nothing gets fed to her printer. i tried several settings to no avail. could anybody help me out here?

thanks

You've got the wrong number of buttons to start with, try 5.

Take a look at http://www.linuxprinting.org/ got me up and running with my HP printer. hpijs is what your probably missing.

Is the nertwork between the machines working? can you ping her machine.

Also do you have a firewall running? (iptables)

yes i can ping her - i went into konsole, ping 192.168.1.102 and it kept pinging... 490 times (i went to the kitchen to check on the ham... came back, was still pinging) had a time of less than .3 ms.

no firewall running...

How did you set up your mouse? When I set up a new (to the machine anyway) wheel mouse I used Mandrake control center. It didn't seem to be working after several tries, until once immediately after setting it up as a wheel mouse I exited the setup program and control center and then restarted my X-session. (ctrl-alt-bkspc) Then it worked as a wheel mouse. I had the additional problem that I was going from a ps/2 to a usb mouse with the ps/2 still connected.

during the install, i selected "standard" in ps/2. after the install, i decided to select intellimouse. it stopped working then. i changed some info in /etx/X11/XF86Config and -4, even changed the buttons from 3 to 5, and the wheel still doesnt work. i messed around in mandrake control center to intellimouse, and then it stopped working...

Um... I am not sure it is a necessary part of setting up a wheel mouse, but in the initial installation of Mandrake (on another machine) after selecting my Trackball Explorer it said to move the wheel. When I set up the wheel mouse on the machine I mentioned in my previous post I did that as a part of setting up the wheel mouse. btw, doesn't the wireless intellipoint blue mouse have just two buttons plus the wheel? If that is the case, you might get it to work as a generic wheel mouse.

Your welcome! I really missed mine until I got it working too. If you lose your mouse again, open a console window, su to root and mousedrake will bring up the mouse configuring app.

I had many problems getting my HP printer to work. I finally got a used JetDirect 300X,print server ,and it fixed all my problems. After I got the JetDirect setup, (IP, Subnet) it was easier to configure from Mandrake than from W2k. Now both my wife and I can use it.

The software I used to set the JetDirect was for Win98, but you can telnet into the box to set it up.
