Installing skype

Hi, I downloaded the tar.bz2 file from the official skype site. When I extract and untar I tried to run the executable getting the following error.

Code:
[siawacsh@localhost skype-2.1.0.81]$ ./skype
./skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXv.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[siawacsh@localhost skype-2.1.0.81]$

Can anyone explain what's going on?

Skype is 32bit, you need to use getlibs to install the needed files.

OK, first I tried;

Code:
[siawacsh@localhost skype-2.1.0.81]$ getlibs ./skype
bash: getlibs: command not found
[siawacsh@localhost skype-2.1.0.81]$
Then I thought maybe i should install the getlibs utility. So

Code:
[siawacsh@localhost skype-2.1.0.81]$ sudo urpmi getlibs
No package named getlibs
Maybe the link you provided is only for Debian based distros...?

In your original post, the error message is telling you that the library file libXv.so.1 can not be found. In this case, the error is telling you that the libxv1 package is not installed. At the command prompt you can resolve this using urpmi:
Code:
urpmi libxv1
HTH,
