Installing MDK 9.1 with custom BOOT kernel

HI

Trying to get Highpoint RAID controller working with Mandrake 9.1 (anyone hear if this patch has already been added to 9.2 ?)

Anyhow I got two patches from Wilfried Weissmann who wrote the hptcode which work with 2.4.21-0.25mdk kernel to give a runtime kernel that recognizes the controller. The problem I have is that I whilst I can also build a BOOT version of this if I use my BOOT kernel and the blank.img boot floppy it won't read the media from the dvdrom drive (BOOT kernel has ide CD complied in) If i use cdrom.img again replacing Vmlinuz with new kernel it gets into 2ndstage install and past the accept license and choose mouse and then complains that it can't find modules that match the kernel. and that /lib/modules.cz-2.4.21-0.25mdkhptBOOT is missing.

1) can I get the 9.1 cdrom media to install off this kernel ?
2) is is possible/needed to rebuild the first CDROM using my new kernel and modules ? in order to do 1 ?

Many Thanks for any hints.

Ian

Have you tried hitting F1 on mandrake install at the beginning and typing expert. I think this gives you the option of using a custom kernel.
