installing Mandrake from linuxworld resource DVD

I'm trying to install Mandrake 9.1 from the DVD I got with the 1st issue of LinuxWorld Magazine ( a $198 value! <smirk> )

The install directions seem to be copied from the original Mandrake CDs, not specifically applicable to this DVD, and the DVD is NOT bootable as the directions claim.

I've created a boot floppy from the /images/cdrom.img file and I get the dreaded: "That CDROM disk does not seem to be a Mandrake Linux Installation CDROM" when I try to boot from it.

Has anyone heard any similar stories, and is there a solution?

Help ?!?!?!?!?!

I recently installed Mandrake 9.1 successfully from a magazine (Linux Format) DVD. Like you, I had to create a bootable floppy from the DVD - contrary to what the mag instructions said, the DVD was not bootable. The DVD was double sided and, I suspect, would not have booted from the second side which contains additional applications software. Could this be the problem in your case? - try booting from the other side of the DVD.

right!

heya,
hey i have the exact same DVD (and from what ive been reading using it is bad hehe) but i am also having the exact same problems. --It is not a double sided DVD--
, when it says that -"That CDROM disk does not seem to be a Mandrake Linux Installation CDROM" - you have an option to retry the disc , options "yes","no"or"cancel"- if you select "no" you then have a list of places to choose to get the SCSI information? I then selected the cdrom.o or the ide-cd.o and it asks for options? i have no clue .
but if you have gotten any useful info that may help this poor Newb out , please post it otherwise i may be forced to use the Red Hat 8 that comes with "Linux for Dummies" and i much rather use Mandrake9.
-THANX MUCH in advance!

I gave up on that "special DVD" and just ordered the $4 CD set from linux gurus...

The only good part is that after I got a Mandrake 9.1 distro up and running, I can just leave the "special DVD" in the drive instead of constantly swapping the 3 CDs when doing installs.
