Hi
I have just installed Linux from 3 CDs,Mandrake 9.1 and I don't seem to be able to start it because it keeps asking for the Local Host log in.
I did not come accross any local host when I installed it.
When I type my user name or real name , my password doesn't type at all.
Any help?
if 'no' is your answer insert the first Mandrake CD (if it has a rescue mode) or try to obtain a distro-on-a-disk CD such as Knoppix, this will allow you access to your computer to make repairs.
I think you're getting the non-graphical login. Just type in your user name, press enter, and then type your password and then enter. When you type the password, there will be no reactions on the screen but that's normal.
Once you're logged in, type
startx
and press enter. If all goes well, you should get to the graphical desktop. If not, look around in the forum for possible solutions or post again (a new thread is probably beter).
cheers
Well, the localhost is the generic network name Linux assing to your pc, anyway.
password field is 'shadowed' for security reasons, so, it seems like nothing's written there, but actually it does, so as said above, type your username, hit enter and then type your password, and enter again
Cheers!
