How can I disable a running application?

Mandriva Spring 2009 KDE 4

I am looking for what is the equivalent to Windows Task Manager. I know I've seen it before, but can't figure out how to get there.

I want to be able to temporarily disable Privoxy.

I tried a couple quick searches without success. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

define "disable". there are Task Manager equivalents (top, system monitors for each desktop environment) but afaik you can't "disable" a task in Task Manager, only kill & change priority.

Tasks run as daemons services and jobs.

A program like htop will allow you to kill a process easily(gui in cli)

service (name) start|stop|restart|status, like

service squid restart, will restart the squid (proxy manager) service

service msec stop, will stop the Mandriva Security service.

You can do more....

Never heard of privoxy, but uninstalling it will stop it!
