Can someone help me out with the proceedure to get my NIC card to work in mandrake? I would really appreciate it. I have a D link wired NIC card and im runnin' Mandrake 9.1
This is a PCMCIA card? If so, (after you login as root and open a console/terminal for typing in the commands that follow) does lsmod show pcmcia_core and ds and perhaps yenta_socket in the list? If so, does cardctl ident show your card in one of the sockets? If so, can you post the output?
Well, let's try using /etc/pcmcia/config first.
Remove the card from the machine.
Then, make a backup copy of the file like this (as root from the console) "cp /etc/pcmcia/config /etc/pcmcia/backup-config".
Then open /etc/pcmcia/config in a text editor, scroll down to around line 2087, you should see an entry around there for another D-Link card, make some space and add these lines:
- blank line -
card "D-Link DFE-690TXD"
version "D-Link", "DFE-690TXD:", "PC Card"
manfid 0x0149, 0x0000
bind "tulip_cb"
- blank line -
then from the console type: /etc/init.d/pcmcia restart
plug the card back in and see if it acts any differently, if not, pull the card, edit /etc/pcmcia/config and remove the "version D-LInk...." line you added, then restart pcmcia and re-plug the card.
To see if the card is working, type "ifconfig -a" at the console, there should now be another network device, most likely named "eth1", or "eth" something.
If none of the above works then we'll have to try using hotplug.
