Hello All,
Im having some problems with my new install of mandrake. Ive got the system up and running on an older ECS mobo with a P2 400. The ethernet card is a 3com900B. It appears as if the devices are all installed and working correctly...I get a green light on the back of the ethernet card when its pluged in. The problem is when I go into DrakConnect, and try the wizard to set up the internet connection....I use auto detect, and it doesnt detect the Lan connection. So I force the Lan setup, and it finds the card, and it asks if I have any other devices. I select "no" ... and it just goes back to the default screen. The other thing that seems weird is that the device should be listed as eth0: at the main setup screen correct? NO devices are listed. Im using KDE, and im a complete newb...any help would be nice. Thanks.
Dont go far, im at my pc's now...I will try and disable plug and play...Also, as far as the thread by scruff...my problem is that it doesnt even check the Lan box...I think there is some sort of configuration problem with the LAN card, its not seen...it will detect if I force it to, but it doesnt seem to set it up. Im trying to get it to connect to the internet via a Linksys router. I have the router set to use DHCP so im assuming it would just be able to pick up an IP address. Keep it coming...I will post my results. Thanks.
that didnt seem to work....When I try to configure ADSL, and use DHCP, it finds the 3com card, I click ok, then it says cannot find ethernet card etc. Any more ideas...and how do I check for conflicting hardware?
I had a similar problem on a VP1541 MB with a system bios rev of 1.03. I updated the bios (after trying everything else imaginable) to 1.08 and it worked!
I just decided to start from scratch again, with just the ethernet card installed when I installed mandrake...This time it detected the card no problem. It was weird, but ive got it up and running. Thanks for the help.
