After doing my research and pestering the people in this forum , I've decided to go with Mandrake. I've ordered a power pak. After it gets here, I'll officially be a Linux user.
Thanks for eveyone's input.
I have one more question. Is anyone here a member of the Mandrake club? I don't mind paying for software and supporting the company, which is why I ordered the power pack, but I don't know about paying an additional 10$ a month to join a forum. I'm not knocking it, just looking for information/opinions.
I didn't join. The help you need can be got here and in other linux forums. There are several forums for Linux. There are a number of admin and others who have been using Linux for a long time that will help. I started using Linux back in March. Any help I got was through a forum and I have learned a lot.
If you have the extra money by all means go for it. I doubt that you will get any better answers than you will get right here though.
Another real good tool for Linux info. Www.google.com/linux. I have got a error message and put in the search field with quotes around it and found the fix that way.
Good luck with Linux. Mandrake 9.1 is great. Lot like XP, more stable though.
I joined the club to help support the group that created one of the
best install programs of any linux (knoppix -is close).
In addition the Drake utilities -WORK - which after trying other distros
was a great leap forward. They earned my $60 for the first year
and I plan to do it again next year.
sure..noone can tell me on here how to "really" get my audigy to work. i have been trying to get it to work for a week now!!! freakin BS if you ask me.
I have been a member, but I do it to support the work being done
in linux developement. I send money to several orgs just because
I like what they do. I don't send a lot of money, $3, $5, $10, what ever I think is suitable. Make me feel good.

With that type of attitude, who would want to help you. I've read your other posts, you didn't even create your own thread with your question to seek help but hijacked an existing one.
You also really don't provide no details, nothing regarding what you've tried or done thus far. How is anyone suppose to help you if you don't ask in a proper way?
I'd suggest drop the attitude and ask your own questions in their own threads, instead of giving attitude or the such in other threads that you've posted in.
im not speakin of people here or this forum. i search high and low for answers and it seems that everyone has a diffferent way to get the audigy to work. i need DIGITAL out working. i dont know how to configure. i dont even know how to get to the configurations. and i dont know the commands to do it all.
i know i have the drivers installed because i can get analog.
in aumix the digital volume control is not an option. i need to enable digital out.
the BS in my post is frustration with Linux. it takes 3 mins to get audio in windows and MacOS. ive been trying over a week with linux just for audio..and still no dice.
im trying linux. its just frustrating.
i dont mean to have an attitude and would appreciate the help. i posted very frustrated because ive been up all night for a while trying to get sound out of linux. i feel like getting my Glock out and filling my PC with holes with this LINUX ill post pics if it gets to that point ....lol
Just a genuine question : Have you tried to launch aumix to see your sound level or gnome-volume-control ? Try to put it up (mainly line1 for CD and general volume).
OK then... back to the topic of THIS thread. ("Gloks"?... oh brother)
Yes, I joined the Mandrakeclub. I've never used their forums because I've found every answer I've looked for by either (i) google; (ii) searching these forums; (iii) asking in these forums.
I also joined because I wanted to financially support the company and community. (As a side note, I've also donated money to Mozilla, and in my Windows years I went out of my way to purchase Zonealarm and Grisoft AVG, even though they offered everything I wanted for free.) I was in the fortunate position to be able to spare $60US (I'm canadian), and bluntly, they deserved it. When Mandrake releases 9.2 Power Pack I'll purchase it, and it will be my first purchase of Mandrake ever (I have bought Red Hat in past... twice).
If I couldn't afford it, I wouldn't have donated, and I know that many people can't afford it, so no problem. We all make choices for our own reasons, but I do feel strongly that people should respect the _culture_ of open-source. I try to further this explaining to everyone I introduce to OS the idea of "free as in speech vs. beer".
To try to pull this back to your original question, I think the value of Mandrakeclub is knowing that you're helping your distro survive and improve in the long-run, rather then any short-term benefits.

Tip #1, post s thread {not ina thread but a NEW thread} here, I sugest in the hardware forum, but in side the distribution you use is also acceptable.
Explain that you do not know how to configure or get to anything.
Let them know where you are at, are you at a text based condole, or are you in X-windows.
That said, I assume you have the card working just not with digital out Is that correct?
