e2fsck startup problem

I receive the following error when i boot up Mandriva LE 2005 on my laptop. This comes after i made a hard power off(because the screen had frozen).

Code:
Checking Root filesystem
WARNING: bad format on line 12 of /etc/fstab
14,17,20,23,26,104
WARNING: Your /etc/fstab does not contain the fsck passno field. I will kludge around things for you, but you should fix your /etc/fstab file as soon as you can.

fsck.ext2/:
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
:Is a directory whilte trying to open /
When i try to run the Mandriva installation program to upgrade the system, i get "Root partition not found"

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have the system setup perfectly and it'd be very very difficult for me to do that again.

Thanks

Hey, thanks a lot. You pointed me along the right direction . /etc/fstab was filled with names of modules, i restored it. I thought i had had a look at it before, but apparently i had looked into the fstab of the rescue disk.

Thanks a lot once again.
