DVD-ROM mounting issue

I have a problem mounting my DVD-ROM. In /dev/ there is not a dvd. It only displays cdrom. I am currently running RH9 but have had the same problem w/ MDK9. Can someone that is not a newb give me some instructions on what to do to my fstab/mtab and automount? Thanks!

You need to make a symlink from your actual device to /dev/dvd

Example if your dvdrom is /dev/hdc you would do:

ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd

How do I find out what device my DVD rom is? Is there a command to look that up?

If you know your computer's internal setup, the Master on the first ide cable (probably a hard drive) is hda; the slave drive on the first cable is hdb; the master on the second cable is hdc; and so on.

If you don't, try running dmesg | grep DVD and see which drive is reported.
