Unhappy Could not find kernel image: linux

This is the first time I'm installing any linux distribution.

I installed Mandrake 9.1. Installation proceeded without any problems, but when I reboot I get "Could not find kernel image: linux" error. I tried to reinstall with different configurations several times with the same result.

I'm using AMD 650, 512MB RAM, WinXP on separate hard disk.

Can anyone tell how to solve this problem?

It looks like a LILO configuration problem.

Did you create a boot disk? did you try with it? if it work, once you log into mandrake, you will have to recreate a Lilo configuration. If it doesn't work, it seems that the install progam does not locate the kernel.

When you finish to install the mandrake 9.1, you have a sum up of the installation and can change some points, Check for booting or Start up part, here you will be allowed to check the LILO configuration.

I tried to use GRUB instead of LILO and all my troubles are gone now.

Thanks for the hint!
