copy and edititing files without X


As a DOS verteran Im used to using a command line. There are a couple of commands I need to konw how to do in Linux:

The COPY command - if i wanted to copy a file in DOS to the a: drive i would use copy <file> a: but what is the file I would use in a Linux Terminal and also if i wanted to edit a text i would use EDIT in dos, what do i use in the Linux?

The copy command in linux is 'cp'

There are many console based editors. The main ones are vim and emacs.

As an old dos user u"ll find as well usefull to install mc (urpmi mc)
It will give you all the possibilities to work on files or on your system...

more command line help needed

when i try and use cp to copy to the a drive im told im not authorised. im using cp <file> fd0 is that right? or do i need to mount the a drive, if so how do i?

how would i then copy the file from te a drive back to the hard disk?

Finally, what is the command to turn off the read only file attriute
