Conexant Drivers + mgetty+sendfax

Hi
Couple of questions:
1. Why do I have to su and hsfconfig to get /dev/modem?
2. Did anyone get to fax on a Soft56k / HSF modem in Linux?

Your help is very needed! Got theW32Blaster worm on XP and finally got the family switching to Linux. Now just this modem Problems! Should get another modem though...

1) Because creating a new device link is altering the system, and complex. So you su to become root, and then run the config program to set it up. You should only have to do it once per driver install/update.

Hi daphantom. I had my winmodem working succesfully in my mandrake 9.1, but it was not easy for a newbie as I am!. I'm afraid You are using a driver from linuxant.com, isn't it?. For your question #1 I can only supose that is for security reasons. Only root can manage installations and some configurations OK?. Question #2 As you can se at: http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/limitations.html this driver does not support fax currently. You can join a mailing list to be aware of new versions of the driver. Feel free to ask any question about installing procedures.
