Cant open pictures that I unzip as user

Hello, I have a problem that is driving me crazy.

I recently mad the switch 100% from XP to Mandrake. I zipped all of my digital camera pics in a WinAce file and put them on a CD. Today, I went in as a user and attempted uo unzip it with Linux UNACE. It unzipped fine but will not allow me to open any of the pictures due to my permissions. each photo is there but they all have a big red x over view and over write.

I went to user set up and gave my user access to all groups, this did nothing for my problem.

I logged in as root (they all are visible as root BTW) and right clicked on the main folder. I made it where it could be viewed, edited, etc by all users. I looged back out and that single folder was ok.

The problem is that only that folder is ok, the indifvidual pics are still not viewable as user.

I went ahead and gave permissions on a few to check and it wored fine but there has to be a way to do this without having to click on every single picture as root and give all permissions. I have 500 pics.

What can I do to fix this? Any help would be appreciated. This is probably a totally NOOB question with a simple fix but I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance

JB

Try opening a console and running:

$ su
<enter root password>
# chmod -R 777 <path to directory with pics>

That will recursively change the permissions for everything in the directory. Make sure you get the path to the directory right. Post back if you don't understand.
