It would dial and do the handshaking and connect. When it came time for pppd to start and hold the connection, it would die. It said the ppp was not in the kernel, but it was. I recompiled and copied the new kernel at least three or four times. Couldn't get it to work.
I posted here and on three or four more forums including Gentoo forums and couldn't figure it out.
I may work on that tonight or tomorrow. Depends on when I get sleepy. Disabled, sucks too.
I would think that there must be a way, does it have any other ways tp connect to the internet. As a built in dialer other or program than kppp.

I got it working. I started over from where you format the partitions and it works now. I don't know what I did wrong though. I do believe it was a kernel compile boo boo though.
I can get on the net now. Just having a bit of trouble with the nvidia drivers.
I thought I'd be wise-guy and load-up Thiz-Linux in my second computer and I may have made a huge mistake. I used partician magic by Power Quest and I tried to reformat my "F:" drive to a Linux Ext2 partition and I made a BIG MISTAKE, I should have loaded Thiz_linux on the reboot, however I let it boot and it went into a DOS mode operation. At that particular time, I thought it was a normal set-up process and I let it continue, until it finally quit @ 77% loaded. Anyway I did a hard boot and now it won't boot up, not even with the rescue disk I created with the Partition Magic software.
I got an error message #91 - Disk Manager has been detected on the drive but is not running.
I don't know what went wrong.
I tried calling Power Quest and they no longer support Partiticion Magic 7.0. ain't that some sh...., I believe they said they would charge me for tech support, if I upgraded to their 8.0 upgrade.
So that's my next project tomorrow.
Damn!

Wow, I thought I had crahsed my computer but was able to bring it back with the help of Tech Support of Power Quest, the makers of Partician Magic.
I used Partician Magic to convert part of my "F" drive, to a Linux ext and it went into the DOS mode and stopped.
Anyway, the tech ran a diagnostic with the Rescue disk I had originally created on my floppy disks and he was able to rescue my boot INI.
He said based on the numers it gave, that the partician magic had finished, but apparently got locked up some how.
I asked him if I should have prevented it from automatically going into the DOS mode and he said NO. That it needed to go into DOS.
My manual states otherwise, but I'll take his word for it.
I loaded Thiz-Linux as my 3rd boot in my second computer, because I could see that my "F" drive had succesfully been converetd to "Raw" drive.
It is installed correctly now and it boots. You should give Thiz-Linux a try and see if you like it. They have a free download off their site. Thiz-Linux has some nice graphics and works similar to Mandrake.
I need to also replace my modem on my second computer, not compatable as well.
