sorry but firefox is easier to install without rpms now-a-days like this

1 download file to your /home/name/download folder
http://www.mozilla.com/products/down...nux&lang=en-GB

its a bz2 so may look scary but its just a compressed file like a winzip file.

2 as you are newbie you are hopefully using KDE and the file manager Konqueror can open the compressed file....when it opens move it to /home/name/

so it becomes /home/name/firefox 1.5.0.6

3 right hand click empty space on desktop select Create New....link to application....go to the last tab and click on the command Button next to browse.....navigate to /home/name/firefox1506/firefox......go back to left hand tab and click on icon then scroll down to pick any icon you like or the firefox icon.....click ok

4 left hand click (assuming right hander) or double click to open browser....click on edit properties and you can unselect automatic checking for updates if you prefer.....then you click on help and manually check for updates.....firefox will download the updates....and you restart firefox to start up a new firefox

Mandrakelinux 9.1 is no longer supported. If you want Firefox, you will have to download the tarball from the Firefox WEB page. Your other alternative is to upgrade to a newer and still supported version of Mandriva. The current version is 2006.0 and 2007.0 will be out by the end of the year.

HTH,

link

if you have a dvd writer, use the dvd .iso
if not , get the .iso's for the three cd set.

I suggest a clean install over an upgrade.

yes you need all three.
do a fresh install...
then do the "easy urpmi" thing....
search for this topic.
it will be all you need to get all
the software you need up and running.
