Can't to do two things at once nor add to the panel

This is weird and irritating.

When I am doing one thing, like copying something, running the control center or luckily, if able too, running two apps at the same time; nothing else is starting.

Example; I am copying from one location to the another, opening an image, or the gconf-editor does not work, at all. They start to load in the window list, but that's about how far it goes.

Also, adding certain things to the panel is not working, this error appears:
Code:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet"
Well, I am not sure how to cure this or how to fix it...

Any ideas at all? Or similar problems with a solution? Been googling and yahooing, but to no help which leaves me to start this thread.

Edit: Btw, I am running Mandriva ONE 2007.1 Spring

Thanks,
E.

Try opening a terminal window and starting an application by entering its name. You should get helpful error messages in the terminal window.

If it is a question of having a limit on the number of applications that you can have running simultaneously that might indicate that a resource is depleted such as not having enough RAM and/or swap space.

Hmm, I've got 2 GB or RAM, and a 880 MB Swap disk, and more than 160 GB of free space. But this seems to be related to my user. I tried to create a new user, and things appeared to work just fine, with no problems. Could it really be that?
