Can't get to the internet through usb/cable connection

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet using my cable modem with a usb connection to my computer. It works fine in Windows XP pro and did work fine on my previous computer in linux. I'm running Mandrake 9.1 and am using RCA Model DCM245 Cable modem. I tried using Mandrake Control Center, the Network and Internet option, Drake Connect and then the wizard.

When I use autoselect it doesn't see the modem connection and I choose the option of loading a cable connection. It then gives me a list of drivers to choose from but the cable modem I have is not listed. I tried several drivers unsuccessfully and I don't see any option to enter a new driver. I don't know what to do. On my old computer, running the same distribution I didn't have to do anything to get it to work. Any help would be really appreciated.

could be a problem with your USB drivers, not your modem. Can you use a usb port for another reason (mouse, memory stick)?

try mucking around with usb settings

These two links may help for setting up usb connection:

If you use the ethernet modem connection and a nic card linux should find it no problem. USB with cable modems seem to create alot of questions and frustration.
