The problem can have very different causes so we need more informations like Vendor, driver in use and modem type (I suppose a PCI modem card) and even the program you are using for modem connection.

Hi
Thank you for your attention.
About the information these are what i know:
-vendor is "Gigabyte but" as i investigated it is based on "connexant"
-There was no special driver for Linux in the related CD and i was using that for a long time by Windows OS.Microsoft had updated the driver and had changed it's name to:
softv92 speaker phone modem..
I tried to find and download a Linux driver for that but failed!
-the program that i am using is: kppp
As i said before i have upgraded to Mandriva2011,and this modem was considered as:unknown device in Mandriva2010
Now! i am using my mobile broadband connection to connect my PC to the Internet and i want to use my modem as an alternative option!

Ok, if I don't remember so bad, conexant modems are particular Software Modems (Winmodem).
Read this to know more about winmodems.
From Conexant page you will be redirect HERE for linux winmodem drivers.

Make sure that the modem is using that driver. If the driver in use is the correct one and you keep getting these errors, well, maybe it could be better to by a real modem.

-That driver was installed but not configurable(the installation procedure for that consisted of 2 commands: first "make install" and then!? "confighsf")..neither there was a driver for Mandriva2011,linuxant site does not support! this beta!? driver,i am going to use an adsl connection in the future.
Thank you

Mandriva is a RMP distro, so use the RPM package.
Then go in your network configuration GUI tool, select the appropriate modem and configure it with the GUI tool.

I also once tried to get a Connexant modem to work on Mandriva Linux. I can definetely recommend the support from Linuxant but couldn't get my modem to work. Also another thing which could be of interest is, that the module needs to recompiled with each new kernel release.

Yep! Since the driver consists in a module you must recomplile it from scratch!
I, definetly, reccomend to NOT use a sofware (f*c*i*g) windows modem! Use a real modem, instead, or get a *DSL line and a router that are not too expansive, nowaday!
