Where can I *remove* associated apps that a certain file would run when I double-click on it? I am not sure if this is gnome or mandriva but it should be something. I have these movie-files and I have been having some problems getting mplayer to run perfectly and now I have a bunch of associated "apps" for .avi and .mpeg and so on. I want to clean everything and remove all the ones that don't work.
Well, in Gnome there IS a unified way to do that, but you know, If you like to associate/un-associate a mime type from a binary then you have to do it with every file manager you've in your linux instalation.
That means Nautilus, Konqueror, Gnome-commander, Krusader, etc etc.
So, tell me more about your system.
Are you using Gnome/nautilus?
Do you use Konqueror/kde?
any stand alone file manager?
Ok. I am just exploring the (newbier) world of easier distros so I installed Mandrake 10.1 and chosed gnome. I am using nautilus, since that one was the default one in gnome, afaik. I have checked a lot but can't find a way to remove associations. Only add more. :P
Ok then, I'm using Mandrake 10.0 and Mandriva LE 2005 but I'm asume this is the same procedure to mandrake 10.1.
Go to the Gnome Control Center (Star menu/Aplications->System->Configuration->GNOME->Gnome Control Center)
Once opened double click on Advanced
There you've to double click on Programs and Files Types (I'm sorry my mandrakes are in spanish so that could be not the correct translation, it's icon is a Motor Piston and a paper sheet united by a double green arrow)
A window will open show every type of file and program Gnome knows.
There you can erase and/or edit to open that kind of file with a specific program
