accessing windows partition

I can't access my windows partition without changing to root. Seems to be a permission problem. Here's the line from my fstab: /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat auto, users 0 0
Is there anything I should change?

I'm running Mandrake 9.2

Thanks,
Wayne

Try:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat auto,user,umask=0000 0 0

Also try 'chmod 777 /mnt/windows' (or chmod whatever permissions you want) as root. Also note that, depending on what you're trying to do, you may need to add other options in fstab. See the manual entry for mount:

users Allow every user to mount and unmount the file system.
This option implies the options noexec, nosuid, and nodev
(unless overridden by subsequent options, as in the
option line users,exec,dev,suid).

/mnt seems also to be non-executable & unreadable except for root so you may need to change the rights on /mnt

I thought it was umask=0 such as

/dev/hda3 /mnt/windows vfat rw,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0

I think the last two zero's or 1 or 2 is the frequency and pass.

Unhappy Can't access windows partition

I can't "chmod 777 /mnt/windows." It doesn't work. I think I have to change the fstab first.
The line: /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat rw,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 did not work. Any others?

Thanks,
Wayne

Question didn't work for me

I'm having the same problem but it seems that nothing I have done is working for me what options did you use in your fstab or mtab? How did you do it?
