9.2: Update after Install wrecks apps

I installed 9.2... started security updates first thing (selected all security updates except for Mozilla as I'll use Konquorer for now)... updates were ALL a success according to RPMDrake. Then quit RPMDrake, restarted computer... and then...

when I'm logged in again almost all of the applications are gone. Most icons are gone from "start menu" thing and only some of them work. Not even "Home" icon on desktop works.

I'm new, but not my first install (tried Fedora and Mandrake 10.0 Comm.)

I want v9.2 because looks like it will be easier to get some more exotic software like temp/fan/volt monitors (proper ones) to work with older version like 9.2 (and yes I know about GKrell thing)...

anyway what's up with v9.2???

I think this was a known bug with 9.2..go to Menudrake and simply re-save your settings

alternatively boot from your 9.2 install disk and instead of reinstalling, just update over your existing and your prob should be solved.

Hi, thanks for quick replies. I take it the update-install will recognize the newer components that I updated earlier? Hmmm... I'll try that first I guess.

Cheers

Code:
update-menus -v
Run it as root and when the terminal stops printing messages, hit [Ctrl+C]. Do the same as user.
BTW, this is a 9.2 bug and I believe updating the packages "rpm" and "popt(?, it's dependent on "rpm") will solve this issue.

Thanks both for replies. Already tried the first suggestion: did "upgrade-install". It briefly did some stuff, took me to post-install, and it was all good again on login.

Only weird thing: had to Delete my old update resource to get updates to work again. It would try to get mirrors list, then I choose the mirror, then it says "error source already exists". anyway deleting the source first fixes that.

And indeed, my hours of updates installed earlier were still installed apparently as they do not appear in the updates list no more.

Candidate for sticky (as stated in above post also):

First update after installing 9.2 (then security ones after):
rpm-build-4.2-22.1.92mdk from "Bugfixes" Category

I guess you still want to do the Save thing in MenuDrake after getting that.
