9.1, installation - newbie


i recently installed 9.1 on my machine. Now I downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers for my card. Now I have this file and I have no idead how to run it. Do I run it from a terminal or something. Please detail out what I have to do. I have just come over from Xp so you can imagine. Your help will be appreciated. Thank You.

There's a sticky thread at the top of this forum that deals with the nvidia drivers and any problems you might have with them.

Might be worth reading through a few pages of that thread and make notes in case you run into any problems.

if it's a compressed file (.tar.gz, .tgz, tar.bz2, etc.) you have to first uncompress it. in kde and gnome, right-clicking the file in a file manager and clicking the appropriate option (extract, uncompress, archiving tool, etc.) should do the trick. if you need to do this at the terminal for some reason, it depends what kind of file it is, first of all. once you get it uncompressed view the readme or install file for instructions.

if it's an .rpm file, it's different. so first of all, what's the filename?

oh, nevermind. i guess with the nvidia driver you're dealing with something different.
