10.1 Freezes when starting...

Mandrake 10.1 always freezes whenever I try to start it...

It always freezes at "Loading USB Filesystem"

So I dump my USB devices and then it loads to run level 3. Not 5 with KDE or gnome...but 3. Then I try to startx, and it gives me a bunch of kernel panic errors and other dumb things.

I assume the startx failing is because of my 6800 GT not passing the silly test during installation...but still.

Anyone have a clue as to what the problem is?

Whatever the problem is it maybe solved in newer releases. I recommend to try those first.
If you can't do that then post exactly the error messages, someone may understand them.

Forgive me for my left field suggestion,

Do you have seperate partitions for /usr and/or /sbin?

There is a thread floating around where 10.1 doesn't mount /usr in time for usb services to kick in...

For example, the boot process calls to usb services, then mount /usr (and any other filesystem) but the catch is that the usb service executable/script resides in /usr.

I did the double whammy and kept /usr and /sbin on the same partition AND upgraded to LE2005.

No problems ...

Cheers

I thought the point of LinuxQuestions was to help others and ourselves to know a bit more about Linux and to resolve whatever problems there might arise.
So the post of "futurist" is out of the question and out of place in this forum.

Let's try and live Windowz in a partition laying around in the disk and boot it whenever it is necessary!
