can you lock launchers (thundervird, chromium) to the launch bar
Hello,
I am new to Mageia, so be prepared for some obvious qustions. My first one has to do with being able to lock an App (launcher if you will) such as Thunderbird to the Launch bar (or is it called a Panel bar?) at the bottom of a KDE desktop.
The default browser is there but whenever I use Thunderbird it si only there for as long as i am using it and when done, tis gone. I'd lke to keep it and any other Apps that i sue frequently on that bar, whatever it is called?
You may be able to drag and drop but they do not stay there once you've closed them. Right clicking gets you options about unlocking widgets an something which slips my mind, but nothing dealing with securing the App to the panel/launch bar. You can set the apps on the desktop but that would only clutter it up as in Windows. It'd be nice if when you right clicked one o the options was add to launch bar?

It might be good to try unlocking the launchers, which is what my right click menu says in it.
Drag and drop the menu item on the panel. Lock the Launchers.
I currently have a launcher for thunar, a terminal, a root terminal and to make sure this worked I just put on a launcher for kTorrent. After adding kTorrent I logged out and back in. Still there along with those other 3 that are not defaults for this desktop.
I would drag them to the dektop and then lock the launchers, however when I closed them after I was done with them they would invariably disappear back from whence they came. In the 'System Settings' under 'Default Applications' I made Thudnerbird my default Email Client but this has not done any good. Now I can put them on the dek top an when open they apear on the tray and when I close them they are still on the desktop not exactly where I want them.
I'd like to report success. An as usual I really have no idea how I did it. With the browser Opera I right clicked on the icon an at the bottom of options was a link to 'icon only task manager settings' I did not click on the link rather i entered Alt D 5, which ahs turned out was the wrong settings. Then if my faulty memory I may have unlocked the launchers then lcoked them again. Now opera has a smaller icon on the right side of the bar. I right clicked on it an at the bottom was exit which I clicked. The larger icon for Opera was still on the Launch bar. I closed Opera an ikt remained on the bar. I tried to do the same with Thunderbird but a first with no success. Then I thought what if we were looking on the opera an Thunderbird icons as launchers what if they were in reality 'widgets' ?? I had Thunderbird opened checking some email, I minimized it to have a better view of the desktop when i right clicked the Mouse. At the top was 'unlock widgets' I clicked it then resized Thunderbird to normal. Tentatively I closed Thunderbird an the small icon on the launch bar remained.
I am using Opera now and when i right click the Mouse now it says "Remove this icon only task manager Alt D R"

You are running Mageia 3 with KDE, I have Mageia 3 with KDE. I am using the 64 bit version, not sure what you are using.
What this shows, however, is that there can be different reactions of software on different hardware. It is important to know this, particularly when get a new box or internal components such as audio or video cards.
This is also why it is a good idea to list your hardware in any help thread or, better, in your signature people can see it at all times.
