Hi,
I have been thinking of contributing, but one thing concerns me - the automatic renewal. I don't mind the idea of this, but do we get an email when the renewal is almost due, so that if I can't afford it I can choose not to.
I would rather not just have my Credit Card debitted without any warning, I need to make sure that there is money in it so I don't get overdrawn.

So do we get renewal notices?
Thanks

You do indeed get (multiple) emails before you are rebilled (and can sign up for non-recurring memberships if using PayPal).

What is that "Desktop Image" you are talking about? I remember seeing something about desktop screenshots a long time ago but now I can't find it. And what is "Custom Profile Image"? I thought we didn't have avatars. :P

It only shows in your profile. Look at mine, for example

When we upgraded the forum code, we moved the "Desktop Gallery" to the profile pictures as it's more flexible and better integrated into the site.

I see. So one can no longer put up a desktop screenshot?

Too bad.. It's nice to see how different everyone's Linux looks.
Not like Windows where every desktop is the same.

If you are a Contributing Member, you can use your profile picture to upload a desktop image.

But aren't they limited to 100x100 which isn't really that good for a screenshot?

Okay,

I want to "join" .... this website is without doubt the best Linux resource on the internet. How do I join without a credit card? I saw PayPal mentioned.... what about cheques etc....

PayPal is currently the only non-CC option available.
