What is Jeremy like?

I am being cyber-harassed here and speaking up, a moderator, Timothy Miller, is siding with the harassers.

When a culture is negative at the top there's not much you can do about it without legal conflict and fighting.

I don't care that much.

Windows is bad, but not that bad. Of course there are also other forums.

What is the culture here? The links seem really busy, but I don't see anything that would direct me to other moderators. If this is Jeremy's baby, what are his values? https://jeremy.linuxquestions.org/

What is the best way to reach him?

(Rules don't matter so much if moderators won't follow them.)

There should also be a talk called “10 years of LinuxQuestions” or something similar, but I had trouble finding it.

Got any links? Harassment has a huge variety of meanings these days. I've never had any trouble with mods and have always found them helpful. I'd certainly hate to be in their shoes in times like this and trust me, it's getting much more often these days...

Jeremy seems very much to the point, very professional and kinda quiet in the forum and in the background. I believe this is the only way for him to avoid having a lot of threads like this one, by disgruntled users who think that he should have taken their side in every little skirmish.

Well, while I think you make a very valid point here Mill J and agree completely that it's by no means an "easy" position to be in being a mod or Jeremy himself here; I don't think it's as simple as you put it by the same token. So with all respect, I think you're being a tad too simplistic here, and a little too dismissive.

There are two sides to every story, the same as it takes two to "tango". The problem with the OP's statement and this thread in general is that the OP does not cite the post(s) they are referring to, we therefore have no way to know who is right, wrong or completely indifferent - it's certainly not fair on Timothy Miller himself. I personally have never had a single issue with Timothy Miller [as a mod or a normal member] myself, and in fact, they don't seem to be anywhere near as active here as a lot of the "regulars" here are. Therefore, and IMO, it's entirely inappropriate to pass any judgement one way or the other without an actual example of what exactly the OP is referring to, and having a lot more info to work with.

There is a HUGE difference between just not being perfect like everyone else, and trolling and harassment, they are NOT the same thing by any means, and it's flat out wrong to say or imply otherwise.

The problem with LQ in general is that issues are being allowed to drag on, and on, with no proper resolution. When this is allowed, it only makes things far more difficult for everyone concerned, most of all the mods and Jeremy themselves. As I've said directly to Jeremy himself, and I'll quote you exactly what I've said to Jeremy himself:

Quote:
All I am asking is that you enforce YOUR OWN RULES consistently, fairly, and in recognition of the facts and situation, along with following through with YOUR OWN WORDS... ie. "actions speak a lot louder than words"
I don't think that's unreasonable to ask and expect, and it's *not* about not liking someone disagreeing with you, such is life, people ARE going to disagree, like it or not, period. But this AFAICS is simply not happening, and when it's not happening at the top (ie. Jeremy), that filters down to the mods and everyone else - I believe if this were an actual business it would be called a "culture problem".

The other point here is that it's all well and good to pass judgement when you're not the target yourself of things like trolling, harassment and similar yourself, but it's not very nice when it IS you that is being targeted. And it does not matter what their reasons are either, it's just plain childish and cowardly. So it's pretty easy to pass judgement when it's not you (I'm not accusing you yourself of any of that BTW) that's being targeted. Another point is that, it's pretty clear to me that, a lot of the nonsense I speak of is the result of the perpetrators simply not liking something their target/victim has said, and instead of acting like a grown adult and discussing it rationally with the other member(s) concerned, they resort to childish trolling and harassment instead. There's also the point that it's almost always certain members that respond to certain subjects/questions in certain ways that are most commonly targeted here by these cowards, and that's not lost on me, even if it is on others.

I myself have drastically scaled back my participation here given that Jeremy himself AFAICS is not enforcing his own rules consistently, fairly nor in recognition of the facts or the particular situation(s). Once upon a time, I used to enjoy coming here and reading people's posts who kindly share their knowledge and experiences. Whereas nowadays, I've lost nearly all will to even bother with this place anymore, given the trolling and harassment, the inconsistent interpretation and application of Jeremy's own rules. When I know for fact I'm not alone in this, then clearly there is a problem with moderation at this site, and clearly it is not being addressed. I know for fact others have either already left this site because of the same kinds of issues, or who are seriously considering leaving it because they see the problems are simply not being addressed. And Jeremy simply saying something like "we don't tolerate harassment or trolling" is completely meaningless when things are clearly not being dealt with properly (if at all), and this needs to actually be understood by Jeremy - not just pointlessly reiterated while the same issues remain.

This post is not directed at the OP or yourself either, I'm speaking in general here. Again, unless the OP actually posts a link to exactly what they are referring to, I'm not going to pass judgement about their claims one way or the other.

A search of the OPs posts will reveal what their complaint is about: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ux-4175705546/

Reading the linked thread, it looks like it goes back to what I posted before which I've quoted a part of below.

So it looks like they took offence to TB0ne's responses in particular.

I tend to agree with Tim's decision now I've seen the thread in question.

Thanks for the context, pity others couldn't save their judgement until we actually saw the OP's thread...
