I have been a member in this forum since 2001 and I have regularly used it until 1-2 years ago.
Then the website blocked me and I found all Iranian IP addresses are blocked.
- Guys, I know our governments have problem with each other... but believe me it has nothing to do with 85 million Iranian (mostly educated, i.e. 15-20 million university graduates).
- I have contributed to many open source projects and I am sorry to say that I am now blocked from access to projects I have contributed to.
- Does it feel just? Specially that most larger websites did not block Iran. This website is a .org website and does not offer any software or product btw.
I really wish the administrators do something about this. Many Iranian have contributed to open source projects including Linux and they deserve to enjoy access to them ...
Dear Friends, Hello

As said, this was covered before in another thread. And to go down your list:
Can't comment on the governments, but no one is blaming 'everyone' in Iran.
Can't help you with that...talk to the other website owners/adminsitrators
There are lots of things that aren't 'just'.
And saying that you have to use a VPN to get access to things period, because of governmental filtering/blocking on one hand, then implying that it's somehow LQ's fault you're being blocked/filtered on the other is kind of ironic. The US Government does not block/filter web traffic, at all, period. Whether the ISP is doing so is another matter.
And after all that, you're obviously posting here....so what's the issue? Talk to YOUR government to have the filtering removed if it's a bother to you.

Obviously the problem is that LQ's hosting provider may be blocking Iran and that telling every Iranian to use a VPN is not a good solution, this may not be trivial for many users who will end up simply not reading or posting here instead.

Exactly, and that's what I said.

I didn't tell anyone to use a VPN, merely pointing out the irony of posting to a website, to complain that it's blocked. The fact the user CAN post would indicate otherwise.
The OP can do whatever they wish, and if they don't want things filtered on their side of things, that's not anything anyone else can control. It's up to the OP to make the changes where they live. Whether they can or not isn't an issue that can be dealt with on a forum.

There is absolutely no irony involved and whether you said that or not, that is the only conclusion that can be drawn from your posts...

It's Iran, that's not going to happen any time soon. OP is obviously going the easiest route by posting here. I think he has done the right thing by seeing if Jeremy can look into it and contact the network provider. I don't know if it'll make any difference though.

Incorrect; I am not responsible for what you think/believe, but you're wrong. Again, they posted to a website, complaining that they couldn't GET to the website...that's the 'irony' part.
How they choose to do it is up to them.

Agreed, totally on both counts. Glad that the OP is continuing to post and get here (somehow), but there's only so much that can be done from the LQ end of things.

The information contained in my previous post still applies. To be clear, LQ is not blocking any specific countries, but multiple large network providers have chosen to do so. At this time, a VPN is likely the easiest workaround.
Even though I use a VPN service, most others may not be able to use it. Not many ISPs block Iran, it is more specifically cloudflare here (might possibly be solved with some setting). Google, MS, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and many other major companies do not block Iran. And FYI a $10/month VPN account is not cheap. A full time PhD lecturer gets $300-$400 and an engineer gets somewhere between $100-$300 (monthly).
I agree with TB0ne. Not everything should be just and he is not responsible for other people's problems, it is their problem and they should deal with it themselves. I even agree with him on the Irony thing. The whole thing is an Irony (and perhaps even pleasantly laughable for him) and once again not his problem.

Some posts on https://community.cloudflare.com/ claim it's the other way around: Iran ISPs block cloudflare (I don't know if it's true, I couldn't find any authoritative looking source about it)

The issue is in no way related to cloudflare. FWIW the last 3 DC's LQ was in seemed to block Iran, none with an escalation path to remove the block. Looking at the list you gave, multiple block Iran and Iran seems to block multiple others.
