Question SUGGESTION - Marking threads as read

When I say marking threads as read I do not mean a button to mark all threads as read. What I mean is, lets say I am located at LinuxQuestions.org > Forums > Linux > Linux Newbie and I see That there are 3 unread threads, LN-Message 1, LN-Message 2, and LN-Message 3. I choose to read All of them. When I am done reading this I click the Forums link which takes me back to LinuxQuestions.org > Forums. I notice the Icon for Linux Newbie is still highlighted as if there are unread messages even though I just read all of them. If I enter back into the Linux Newbie forum, all the messages are read. I can then go back to the Forum main page and Linux Newbie will be marked as read.

Why is it in order for this forum to register that I have actually read a message I must first go to it's Parent location and work my way back out to the Forum main page, instead of just being able to click back the where I want to be?

Perfect example, I was in the Linux - Newbie board and there is a thread titled 'Ubuntu Wont Start". It is the only unread thread on that board and I replied to it. However I clicked the Navigational Link above the Thread to take me back to it's parent location and it shows the Ubuntu Wont Start thread as unread and shows me the last person to reply. If I am the last person to reply, how is that thread unread to me?

Here is a screenshot showing what I am talking about, http://www.tuxknowledge.com/jared/LQ-Error.png

If you used the quick reply you may have to reload the thread. Otherwise simply reloading the forum page should be sufficient (and a quick test confirms that it works as expected for me).

It is just weird. This is the only forum I have ever seen where when posting from a quick reply (which is all I use) doesn't count, even though the page is reloaded when the post is made.

The page actually isn't reloaded when you use the quick reply. Depending on their settings, most vB sites are like this. I agree it's not intuitive and I believe it's been addressed in the next iteration of the software. Thanks for the feedback.

Ah ok. Th only other forum I use these days uses IPB. I never was a fan of vB boards from an Admin side of things. I grew partial to using SMF personally.
