[SOLVED] Sometimes "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but..." appears too early.

It's the bold black marker one gets on the list of New Posts (View New Posts), full text:
The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts.

I quite depend on this marker when I try to find topics of interest between LQ visits.
I expect this marker to indicate the time of my previous visit's logoff, but sometimes it appears "too early". Today it indicated a time just 30min earlier, i.e. after my actual logON time today.

The behaviour seems completely random.
I thought this only happens during very long login sessions, but apparently not.

could it have sth to do with time zones?

did i not describe the problem properly?

i repeat, i wasn't automatically logged off last time this happened. the session wasn't so long.

I'm not able to reproduce the issue, and I've not heard other members experiencing it. Your session automatically ends after 15 minutes of inactivity, so the duration of the session should not come into play nor should the timezone.

i was under the impression it was much more.
anyhow, in the case mentioned i was still logged in!

If you check the "Remember Me" box you'll automatically be logged in when you visit LQ. Your session always ends after 900 seconds of inactivity however.

and I did NOT have to login in between!
this clearly happened during one browser/LQ session.

what's going on?

OS: archlinux
browser: palemoon 27.2.1 (64-bit) with noscript and RequestPolicyContinued addons (blocking only google* for LQ)
passive adblock via /etc/hosts

That appears correct to me. Your initial session for the day started around 9. At some point after that you were inactive for >900 seconds. "View New Posts" is now showing you activity since that previous session expired.

If you block cookies from LQ the login persistence will not function correctly.

I don't block cookies during the day but my default is to run a script at boot (every morning) to to clear everything from my Safari folder except security signature, history and bookmarks.

are you saying that some counter is reset after 900s, resulting in the message i'm seeing, but it doesn't automatically log me out? because that's how it appears to be.

Yes, as mentioned your session always ends after 900 seconds of inactivity.

just let me check one more time if i'm getting this right:
LQ will autologout after 900s, but if the cookies are still there, it will autologin me, probably on page refresh, so i won't even notice the logout (other than what i'm complaining about here)?
