Why don't you start the ONLINE Linux users group off this site. And have one area that is dedicated to members and have one night a week, month, and have different moderators speak/chat/inform on some of the most important topics, and maybe even make that one day or night available to all users to provide more insight? Just a suggestion? The sight is great, for a newcommers and members alike, but I think it might create even more commradery amoung Linux users. Hell, Id even pay a fee to join! That might even help on the upkeep that is required to keep this all going!
That sounds cool, and I am willing to do it.....
The only problem I see is there are alot of users in different time zones especially in the UK.
This would make it difficult I see on some. When its the evening here in the US, its like 6 to 7 hours ahead over there in the early morning hours...
but if others are willing I am willing.
Just to let you know and anyone, I am almost always on AIM while at work to help anyone out, usually from 7am to 3:30pm American Central Time that is.
actually, this site had a chat section a while ago, but it was used so rarely that jeremy shut it down. it's great to be able to chat to the other members on this board, but most members aren't logged in for long enough to really get a good chat going. this site is only a bit over a year or so old... maybe after it's grown a bit, the chat section can be put up again/
Well my suggestion is a little different than what was originally there with just an open chat. This idea is geared for those of us who are members, and enjoy the indepth knowledge of fellow users/MEMBERS, and want to belong to a formal type of organization that has some functions every now and again. That is why propose the area to be a members only type thing, with cetain functions that would be for all to see and participate in!
I can see your point though, allot of people that are etiher newbies or just browse at time do not spend allot of time here. But others grow to become full members that end up helping.
hmmm.. that'd be cool. after 100 posts or so, you get to use the chat section. a secret back-room, so to speak, where we exchange the REAL secrets about linux... heh hehe heheh....
I like the idea, and I don't think that time zones are going to be too much of a prob. Well, I don't mind having discussions late in the night!
What I would like to see is a forum like the one in pcmech called Think Tank. Basically people could share their ideas (not specific questions!) about problems, or discuss problems which are central to Linux, such as the need for a universal software installer. What do you think?
I know it is a little off the subject, but I do like the idea of a chat area, or IRC channel!
I would love to be part of something like this. I didn't know that there used to be a chat section. It would be nice to be able to talk to people in a more 'face to face' kind manner. Problems could be solved quickly and productive chat logs could be posted for new users to search through.
Hi all
I am probably the newest of the newbies, but I think the chat idea if great. I just installed Red Hat, and am still learning how to use it and such. ( my frigging video sucks, and I haven't got the net up yet). But it would be cool to have a real time resource. Besides, Seige ,at work, is getting sick of me asking all these questions. So let's do it. (unless you already have and how do I find yas?

I agree with CragStar about a general chat to discuss central Linux problems. Of course, I can only contribute ideas, someone else would have to make them work. Though, after Sept 5, my access is limited. School!
