Shell scripting sub-board to Programming board?

Can we please have a shell scripting sub-board to the programming board?

Thanks.

Also, I probably won't check into this thread.

With that said, through the years I've dealt with Linux, I think it's a REALLY GOOD IDEA to have a shell scripting sub-board.

Thanks for the feedback. We have no plans to add a dedicated shell scripting forum at this time. The current Programming forum is an appropriate place for shell scripting threads.

What? Does this mean at some future point you'll get a bee in your bonnet again and start another thread asking for the same thing?

I feel it has merit though. In fact, some organizational form between BASH, Perl, and other script languages ... maybe, versus C, C++, etc.

However, I'll admit to largely being introduced to a lot more AWK and other concepts that I wouldn't natively migrate too. Clearly I'm not going to look at Perl script threads, I'm sure I can deal with it if given a project in Perl, but I'm no expert and thus wouldn't involve myself. But meanwhile I'm no AWK person, more SED. People use AWK a lot though in relation to BASH scripts or just for other reasons. Therefore me being exposed to those because I was viewing stuff about a BASH script is a learning experience. Plus being involved in the programming forum where I really can contribute mostly for C and C++, I feel I've learned regex a lot better over the years.

Pros and cons. Jeremy doesn't feel it's worth separating and from all I've said, I'd have to conclude that for me it's better to leave the topics conjoined in one forum.
