[SOLVED] recommended thread permalink for citations?

What's the recommended permalink for a thread, when citing it in an article? The onsite links to a thread, such as:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/%5Bdiscussion-diversion%5D-convenience-shell-tips-and-tricks-for-slackware-users-4175720155/

differ from the "Email to Friend" links to the same thread, such as:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=4175720155&referrerid=1257739

Is one likely to be more permanent than the other? If there's no difference then I'd lean towards the shorter, "Email to Friend" link.

In fact I would probably drop the referrerid to keep it short as possible, unless there is some disadvantage to that:

Or is there another permalink syntax I should be using?

Following up on this, I see that syndication also uses the "showthread" short form. But of course each syndication XML is frequently rewritten, so there's no expectation that links embedded therein must be long-lived.
